The next time your throw an outdoor event at home, here are some tips to enhance the occasion.
Clean up your property. Mow the grass and clear it of such things as tools, toys and debris from trees. Choose background music that's neutral (bossa nova is always a good choice!) and play it at a reasonable volume. Have some fun yard games on hand. There are tons to choose from, such as relay races, croquet, bocce ball, badminton, volleyball, corn hole and three-legged competitions.
Create a festive atmosphere using the simplicity of light, such as candles, strings of white lights and festive lanterns. Don't let pesky insects ruin your event. Burn citronella candles and have pleasant-smelling bug repellent on hand. Clean up the interior areas of your house where guests may roam. Hone in on the bathroom, where just about all of your guests will eventually end up.
